Lion King Automaton

Three students in ETE 271 (Structures and Mechanisms) built an automaton based off the movie Lion King. This project was completed by Heather Petersack, Emilie Taylor, and Amanda Turton, all of which are Math/Science/Technology — Elementary Education majors. The goal of this project was for students to go through the design process to design and build an automaton, or mechanical sculpture.   In these automata, the students envision and bring to life a scene, animated by mechanisms.  Through this project, students apply their knowledge about machine elements. At the same time, students also gain valuable experience and confidence working with their hands to transform an idea into a physical reality, through the safe and proper use of tools, machinery, and materials.
